Even as a baby, Ekko was putting together small machines. His parents, Inna and Wyeth, noticed the gift and made a promise to themselves: their son would not be wasted in Zaun. Everything he would become began with a broken crystal and a boy who wanted to save his friends. The story below follows Riot's Universe biography.

Parents who wanted him in Piltover
Inna and Wyeth believed Zaun, with its pollution and crime, would only stifle a mind like his. He deserved the wealth and chances of Piltover. So they worked too many hours in suffocating, dangerous factories, aging faster than they should, for tiny wages while factory owners and sneering Piltovan buyers took the profit. It would all be worth it, they told themselves, if their son rose to the city above.
A city he refused to leave behind
Ekko looked at the same streets and saw something else. Behind the flaws he saw a place buzzing with energy and promise, where industry, resourcefulness and resilience bred real invention. Zaunites had built a thriving culture out of catastrophe and flourished where others would have died out. That spirit pulled him into a youth of wild tinkering.
He had company. Scrappy orphans, curious runaways and eager upstarts gathered around him, the Lost Children of Zaun. Most Zaunites learned through apprenticeships, but these kids let the maze of streets teach them. They raced across the border markets and dared each other to climb from the Sump to the Promenade, answering to nobody.
The shard
One night, alone in the rubble of a freshly demolished laboratory, Ekko found a shard of blue-green crystal glittering with magic. Every Zaun child had heard of hextech, the power behind weapons and heroes, and here was a broken piece of it in his hand. He hunted for more, but the heavy footfalls of enforcers in hextech gear told him he was not the only one searching. He barely got away.
At home he experimented without caution. In one far-from-scientific attempt the gem burst into a vortex of glittering dust and set off ripples of distorted time. When he opened his eyes, several splintered realities were around him, and several echo versions of himself stared back in panic. This was his biggest blunder yet.
With his paradoxical selves working nervously together, the tear in reality was sealed and repaired. In the end he channelled the crystal's temporal power into a device meant to manipulate small slices of time, at least in theory.
Old Hungry
For his name day his friends pushed him to scale the ancient clocktower called Old Hungry, and he took the untested device along. They climbed, stopping now and then to paint rude caricatures of prominent Pilties. Near the top a handhold gave way, and one friend plunged toward a certain death. Without thinking, as though he had done it a thousand times, Ekko triggered the device. The world shattered and he was dragged backward through whirling particles of time.
Then he was back, watching the same friend reach for the same rotten plank. It broke, the boy fell, and this time Ekko dived for the edge and caught his shirt. He tried to swing him clear, but the boy tangled in the tower's gears, and then: stop, rewind.
It took several tries before he saved his friend. To the crew it looked as though Ekko's superhuman reflexes had rescued the boy before anyone saw the danger. He explained the crystal to the crew and had them promise to keep quiet. They answered by daring one another to ever sillier heights, knowing Ekko could pluck them out of trouble.
The Zero Drive
Each trial, and a great deal of error, made the device steadier. Ekko named it the Zero Drive. The one cap was how many repeats his body could survive before it gave out. His time tricks have drawn attention from some of the cleverest, strongest and most perilous figures in Zaun and Piltover, though what he cares about is his crew, his kin and his hometown.
He pictures a day when Zaun towers over the so-called City of Progress and Piltover's gilded surface fades beside a Zaun built on nerve instead of inherited advantage. A plan is still missing, but time is something he has plenty of. If his device can rewrite yesterday, tomorrow should not be much harder.
Moves and counters, briefly
Official title: the Boy Who Shattered Time. Role tags are Assassin and Mage, the resource is Mana, and Rift Lab's Wild Rift data lists mid. Z-Drive Resonance adds magic damage on every third hit on one enemy and grants speed when it hits a champion. Timewinder is a grenade that slows, then returns and hits again. Parallel Convergence opens a slowing anomaly that shields Ekko and can stun enemies inside. Phase Dive rolls away while charging and carries his next attack to the target. Chronobreak makes him untargetable, rewinds him a few seconds, heals part of the damage taken and burns enemies near his arrival point.
The official tips: allies should use Chronobreak offensively too and chase Resonance procs, since the speed helps escape. Opponents should punish him while Chronobreak is on cooldown, watch the image he leaves on cast to guess where the stun zone sits, and avoid the second Timewinder hit, which is stronger than the first.
The data lists twenty-four skin names, including PROJECT: Ekko, and many are colour or style variants of a base name. Kit and skin details come from Riot Games Data Dragon: Ekko champion data (patch 16.21.1), dated 2026-10-21.
On The Nexus: Ekko in Rift Lab has roles, builds and counters for Wild Rift, and everything on The Nexus about Ekko is gathered on one page. Skins and gifting are under Wild Rift skins and gifting, and League of Legends top-ups and Riot Points covers the League side. Zeri is also tied to Zaun in the official biographies.
