Wild Rift Patch 7.2a: All Changes Explained

Wild Rift patch 7.2a in short: Patch 7.2a was a balance update Riot published on 15 July 2026, one week after patch 7.2. It toned down Nidalee, Warwick and Senna, buffed Skarner and Yuumi, slowed the Mana stacking of Tear of the Goddess and Manamune, weakened Seraph's Embrace, Blade of the Ruined King and Armorcrusher Boots, and tuned AAA ARAM.

Historical page: the current patch is 7.3. Patch 7.2a has been superseded several times, most recently by patch 7.3 on 21 September 2026. Use this page to understand what 7.2a did and why; check the 7.3 notes and our live tools for current values.

Big patches are usually followed by a quick correction, and 7.2a was exactly that. Patch 7.2 had rebuilt Enchantments, boots, mage items and runes in one go, and the first week of play showed which picks and items had come out too strong or too weak. This page explains every group of changes in 7.2a in plain language, what each one meant in a real match, and how the follow-up patches continued the work. Numbers come from Riot's official notes and are linked; we quote only the key ones.

Why patch 7.2a happened

Patch 7.2 was one of Wild Rift's largest gameplay updates. Among other things, it tied active Enchantments to champion classes, added Tier 3 boots that unlock after ten minutes, removed built-in Magic Penetration from Tier 3 mage items, cut Tear of the Goddess to 500 gold and weakened runes across the board. Changes of that size always create winners and losers that only become clear on live servers, and Riot followed up with balance patches through the cycle.

In its introduction to 7.2a, Riot described the goal simply: address a few standout performers, bring a few weaker champions back into the fight, and keep watching the meta. Nothing in 7.2a changed how a system works; it changed how strong specific champions and items were inside the new systems.

The five champions changed in patch 7.2a: three junglers and two supports.
ChampionDirectionWhat changed, in brief
NidaleeNerfLess base damage on her cougar Pounce and a smaller defensive bonus from Ability Power in cougar form.
WarwickNerfLower damage ratios on his passive and on his first ability, so targets he locks onto have more time to respond.
SennaNerfHer passive's current-Health damage fell from 1.2%–12% to 1%–10% by level, and her ultimate's shield was rebalanced.
SkarnerBuffMore max-Health damage, a shorter cooldown and bigger shield on Seismic Bastion, and a shorter cooldown on Ixtal's Impact.
YuumiBuffCheaper Zoomies and more base healing on Final Chapter, for steadier sustain through a fight.

The jungle was the main target. Riot said Nidalee's jungle damage had exceeded expectations, especially in skilled hands, and that Warwick left opponents too little room once he committed. Both are early-pressure junglers who decide games by striking first. Skarner went the other way: Riot said he had been underperforming in skirmishes and ganks since the latest patch, so he got more damage, durability and crowd control at once.

Supports moved in opposite directions. Senna, who can play as a damage-dealing support, was overperforming, so both her damage and her ultimate's shielding came down. Yuumi's healing had felt weaker than intended since 7.2, and 7.2a answered with lower Mana costs and stronger base healing so she could keep supporting through longer fights.

Item and boot changes in 7.2a

Most of the item changes were a direct reaction to one decision in 7.2: making Tear of the Goddess a cheap basic item. Riot's reasoning in 7.2 was that Mana-stacking champions should be able to start or rush Tear. The side effect was that the whole Tear family (Manamune, Archangel's Staff, Seraph's Embrace) reached full power too early.

  • Tear of the Goddess: each stack now gives slightly less maximum Mana (6 down to 5), which slows every item built from it.
  • Manamune: slower Mana stacking and less bonus damage from the transformed Muramana's passive.
  • Seraph's Embrace: its emergency shield scales less with maximum Mana, cutting the shield size.
  • Blade of the Ruined King: after 7.2 raised its Attack Damage, melee users got too much value, so its melee current-Health damage fell from 10% to 8.5%.
  • Armorcrusher Boots: this new Tier 3 boot was outperforming the others, so it lost some Armor Penetration and Attack Damage.

How to read item nerfs like these: a small cut to stacking speed does not make an item bad; it moves its power spike later. If your champion relied on reaching a fully stacked Manamune or Seraph's Embrace early, 7.2a meant you had to survive a few more minutes before that spike, which gives the enemy a longer window to punish you.

AAA ARAM changes and bug fixes

In AAA ARAM, Riot slowed the Mountain Mover Augment, removed the special item build paths from Whale, sped up minions after ten minutes, made respawns longer after fifteen minutes, and added a Legionary Potion to the shop. About fifteen champions also received mode-specific damage dealt and damage taken tuning; because those values only apply inside that mode, we do not repeat them here. The bug fixes covered Diana's Dusk and Dawn trigger, Searing Crown sometimes failing to deal damage, Zyra's plants interacting incorrectly with Blackfire Torch, and several ARAM Augment and item interactions.

What 7.2a meant for players

For ranked junglers, 7.2a narrowed the gap between the strongest early-game picks and the rest. Nidalee and Warwick lost some of their ability to end a fight before the target could react, and Skarner got more reason to be picked for ganks and skirmishes. For Dragon Lane and supports, the Senna nerf touched two roles at once, because she can be played as a damage-dealing support, while the Yuumi buff mainly affected players who already enjoyed her. For Tear users such as Manamune carriers and Mana-hungry mages, the patch did not change what to build, only how quickly the build paid off.

A good habit after any balance patch is to compare your main champions against the notes before you queue. Our champion pages, item guide and tier list track the live patch, which today is 7.3, not 7.2a.

What came after 7.2a

7.2a was the first of several corrections. Two weeks later, patch 7.2b found Nidalee still overperforming and lowered her base Armor and Magic Resist as well as her Movement Speed bonuses, gave Lee Sin more shielding now that he had settled into a fighter role, and slowed how quickly the new bounties built up. Later updates such as patch 7.2d came back to Yuumi and several other champions. Riot then replaced the whole cycle with patch 7.3, which added Hwei as the newest champion, overhauled marksmen and critical strikes, reworked the jungle economy and Smite, and began Ranked Season S23 on 23 September 2026.

Frequently asked questions

When was Wild Rift patch 7.2a released?

Riot published the patch 7.2a notes on 15 July 2026, one week after patch 7.2. It was followed by 7.2b on 29 July, and the whole 7.2 cycle was replaced by patch 7.3 on 21 September 2026.

Which champions were nerfed in patch 7.2a?

Nidalee, Warwick and Senna were weakened. Nidalee and Warwick lost some jungle damage, and Senna lost damage on her basic attacks and shielding on her ultimate. Skarner and Yuumi were the two champions buffed.

Why was Tear of the Goddess nerfed in 7.2a?

Patch 7.2 made Tear a cheap basic item, which let Manamune, Archangel's Staff and Seraph's Embrace reach full power too early. Patch 7.2a slightly slowed Tear's Mana stacking and trimmed Manamune and Seraph's Embrace to push that power spike later.

Did patch 7.2a add a new champion?

No. Patch 7.2a was a balance update only. Yunara had arrived with patch 7.2, Cho'Gath came later in the 7.2 cycle, and the newest champion today is Hwei, who was added in patch 7.3.
